Tourism in Pakistan

Tourism has lot of contribution to economic growth of a country and it improves the economic status of people. Tourism is an important field for development of human capital, the public sector contributes more than 30 % of national income and exports from the sector, all the development impacts the people who are directly involved with this industry. In these days Pakistan recorded a total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of PKR 1857 663 38 in the year of 1983 and grew at the rate of 3. 2% in the year of 2000 and 6. 3% in the year of 2009 (source, 2012). Pakistan had no tourism infrastructure when it started its development and formed the most rudimentary of infrastructure in the world such as road, hotel, lodgings, drinking water, pool as well as, transportation. Tourism is both a big project in tourism sector and a big factor in the tourism sector as it can affect the economies of other sectors to a great extent.

Being nature lovers, the people also love to visit parks and picnic spots by nature. Many cities have beauty parks and picnic spots where people can picnic, go for picnics, go for bike ride and enjoy the beauty of nature in a completely peaceful environment. Different parks and picnic spots present Pakistan with the opportunity to welcome people from different parts of the world and for a picnic with them, they may also enjoy the beauty of the environment of Pakistan.

In the year of 1992 the government decided to form new tourism ventures in the country to bring relief to the people of Pakistan as in the year of 1973 the country was in a financial crisis due to extreme inflation and devaluation of Pakistani rupee, inflation rate was at 8000% while the devaluation rate was 4. 7 times of value of rupee (source, 2012).A lot of public-private tourism ventures were set up in the country to provide high quality facilities and improve the efficiency of tourism industries such as rejuvenating Pakistan’s lush green mountainous landscape by setting up the first hybrid hotel development in Pakistan’s history, national park, Ravi River-discovery areas, history museums, memorial parks, nurseries, campsites, adventure parks, rafting facilities, seafood parks, water play areas etc.

In the year of 1990-1991 Tourism Development Corporation(TDPC) was established to speed up the preparation of tourist ventures in the country. There are many types of tourism activities which depend on each other like bicycle trail, hiking, boating etc. These type of tourism can be well accommodated through proper infrastructure development and infrastructure can be created to facilitate tourism activities in the country. Lastly, Pakistan has been given the opportunity to host the 2012 Olympics which will not only contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth but also enhancing the tourism potential of the country.
